Weekly Scripture Studies
For one hundred and seven years, the Bible has been faithfully preached within the walls of the beautiful Laclede Groves Chapel. For many Christians, Scripture is most familiar when heard in worship—read from the lectern on Sunday morning and woven into the sermon. Yet the Bible has always invited more than a brief encounter. It invites reflection, questioning, and thoughtful study.
The Weekly Scripture Studies are offered by the Friends of the Chapel to help deepen that encounter.
Each week’s study focuses on the lector's readings of the Old Testament and Epistle for the designated Sunday. These reflections provide background on the biblical texts, explore their historical setting and theological themes, and highlight insights that can enrich both personal faith and the experience of worship.
The concise study each week introduces the readings and encourages thoughtful reflection in advance of worship. For many readers, engaging the Scriptures beforehand transforms the Sunday experience. The passages are no longer unfamiliar words heard for the first time, but texts already pondered and questions already forming.
